Waste Streams Poster

I designed a poster for the industrial health and safety department of a biotech company to explain waste streams to employees.

This poster was laid out in Adobe InDesign and assets were created in Adobe Illustrator.

The poster before my design

The original poster given to me by the company had all of the necessary information, but the layout was confusing and unattractive.

I designed a new layout to make the information easier to read by color coding  and creating consistent icons to represent each waste item and disposal method. I based my design off of the City of Seattle's guides for garbage, compost and recycling disposal.

I used images supplied by the company as well as online research to make icons for each waste category and disposal method. For some I recreated industry standard symbols, such as biohazard, and flammable symbols. Other symbols were based off of images of the objects. I added consistency to the icons by simplifying shapes and using isometric projection when possible.
